Top Gun: Maverick's Oscar hopes dashed over Russian ties?
As Russia's official submission for the Best International Feature Film category of the 2022 Academy Awards, "Top Gun: Maverick" has been chosen.
The widely awaited sequel to the 1986 classic stars Tom Cruise as the titular Maverick, a U.S. Navy pilot, and contains magnificent aerial combat scenes.
The film was initially scheduled for release in 2020 but was postponed because of the COVID-19 epidemic.
It has been in development for more than ten years. The movie will now hit theatres on May 27, 2022.
It's not the first time a Tom Cruise film has been chosen as Russia's Oscar submission.
As the nation's official submission in 2018, "Falling," a biographical drama about a pilot, was picked.
Fans of the series are buzzing about "Top Gun: Maverick" and can't wait for it to come out.
The film has a chance to stand out on the global scene thanks to its selection as Russia's official Oscar submission.
Although it is uncertain if it will ultimately win the prize, the fact that it was chosen speaks much about its potential.
